Certificate of Completion | Barrydowne
A micro-credential is a Cambrian College Board of Governor’s level certification awarded at Convocation. The Gender and Sexuality Studies Certificate of Completion is currently being offered to students who are taking a two-year diploma program, a three-year advanced diploma program or as a stand-alone certificate.
In order to be eligible for this certificate, students must complete four courses within the Gender and Sexuality Studies area.
Gender and Sexuality Studies will explore, engage, and promote awareness of gender and sexual diversity so that students will be better able to communicate effectively across difference, understand how structural barriers and inequitable practices are created, and thrive in an increasingly diverse world. This micro-credential aims to increase inclusive practices and improve the lives of 2SLGBTQIA+ people by ensuring students understand the issues around diversities of sexual orientation and gender.
Students will:
- gain an understanding of gender and sexuality as they relate to political perspectives
- understand the social and cultural role of activism
- recognize the importance of art and culture
- examine the subtleties of language and explore how the use of language can impact people in every facet of life

Current Postsecondary Students
Students currently enrolled in a postsecondary program at Cambrian College may take this micro-credential concurrently with their diploma program.
Whenever there is a General Education course within their program, students seeking the micro-credential should elect to take one of the four Gender and Sexuality Studies courses. Since each program requires three General Education courses, students must enroll in one additional course (with applicable tuition and other fees), whether as an overload or through an off-stream term. Students will apply to graduate for the micro-credential upon completion.
For further information, please contact your program coordinator or Bradie Granger, Chair of General Studies.
