Advanced Care Paramedic (APPD)
Ontario College Graduate Certificate | 2 semesters | Barrydowne
Add to your Primary Care Paramedic training to advance your career and increase your salary while making a difference in the health of your community. You will undertake advanced training delivered through a combination of classroom, simulation, clinical, and preceptorship environments. Your training will exceed what is prescribed within the National Occupational Competency Profile for Paramedics. You will also complete preceptorship through exposure to an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) land ambulance service. Costs incurred by the student for the preceptorship in-town and or out-of-town are the responsibility of the student.
This is a full-time program and, in some instances, you may be able to continue working as a Primary Care Paramedic during your studies.
This program is based on the Ministry of Health Paramedic Syllabus, the National Occupational Competencies for Paramedicine, and holds accreditation from Accreditation Canada.
- 1 year - 2 semesters
- Full-time, the requirement to be on campus is for the Fall semester (Sept-Dec) and only 2 weeks in the Winter semester (Jan-Apr). The remainder of the winter semester is completed with an ambulance service and the expectation is completion of 84 hours (7 shifts) every 2 weeks.
- Continual renewal of equipment
- Possibility to work while you learn
Successful completion of this program qualifies candidates to write the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Advanced Care Paramedic Theory Examination
When you begin your studies, you will be asked to indicate your preferred clinical placement location. Every effort will be made to accommodate your preference for clinical placement; however, due to the restricted availability of placements in specialized fields, the location of your placement site may be different from what you have selected and you may be required to complete your placement at a site and/or in a city other than Sudbury. If multiple students request a placement at a site where only one opportunity is available, placements will be allocated by lottery method. Please note that all related clinical placement expenses such as travel, parking, and accommodation are the responsibility of the student.
Please note that possession of the requirements does not guarantee admission. If the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of places available in the program, the College reserves the right to select from among those applicants. All students applying by February 1 will be given equal consideration. Preference will be given to Ontario residents. Please see the Limited Enrolment F.A.Q.'s on our website under "How to Apply" for further details.
