In this course, students will be introduced to the various theories of group work, the basics of group process, and professional and ethical issues involved in group counselling. The course entails supervised experience as a co-leader of groups and discussion on the nature of the work of leading groups. Theory is applied to the actual practice of group work from a social service worker/social work perspective. Given that the learning outcomes of this course specify group interaction, demonstration of skills, and observing others, students must attend no less than 60% of classes in order to be successful in this course.As the skills learned in this course build on each other as a process, students are expected to attend ALL classes to maximize chances of success. A student will lose 5% a day for any late assignments handed in.
