In this course, students will learn the fundamental skills of writing the social service work record as it applies to direct one-to-one intervention, group work and community organizing. Students will study the purposes of the social service record and the importance of communicating clearly, concisely and accurately in written forms. Students will learn how to apply the core professional values of confidentiality, unconditional positive regard, self-determination, empathy and non-judgmental attitude in the record. The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers' standards of practice will guide the learner to develop records that adhere to professional standards. A student will lose 5 marks a day for any late assignments handed in.
