PSW 1118   Foundations for PSW II   Credits: 3

In this course, students will discuss the essential principles of promoting and maintaining a safe, comfortable environment for clients, their families, self, and others in acute care and home care settings. Legislation surrounding The Public Hospitals Act and the use of restraints will be discussed. Home Care infection control methods will be highlighted as well as ways to support the client's home management services according to preference, comfort, and safety within employer guidelines. Students will examine healthy eating and safe food handling. Students will be introduced to therapeutic diets. Further, students will be exposed to the interview process and the fundamentals of job application preparedness. Opportunities to practice home management/home care skills in a simulated apartment setting will enhance the theoretical learning.
