MTH 1113   Pre Health Math I   Credits: 4

In this course, students will demonstrate the ability to evaluate a variety of arithmetic and algebraic expressions and apply these principles to typical situations that arise in the health care or related professions. Concepts studied include numeracy fundamentals (fractions, decimals, ratio and proportion, and percentage); algebra, with an emphasis on analytical techniques and formula evaluation; and evaluating systems of linear equations. Students will develop essential critical thinking and problem solving skills through exposure to application problems common in the health care or related fields, including dosage calculations, solution concentrations, dilutions, pH, and hydrogen ion concentrations. Students will also be able to manipulate values within the common measurement systems using practical health care applications such as temperature, area, volume, body mass index (BMI), and body surface area (BSA) calculations.
