MTH 1050   Algebra I   Credits: 3

In this course, students will apply basic mathematics to the solution of problems involving physics and engineering technology. They will classify real numbers into rational and irrational. Basic algebraic laws will be applied to simplify binomials, trinomials, and polynomials. Students will solve right angle triangles using trigonometric functions. They will also resolve vectors into components. Analytical and graphical techniques will be applied to solve two equations in two unknowns. Students will also calculate areas and volumes of different shapes using geometry rules. Word problems will be interpreted and represented mathematically with systems of equations. Finally, students will be able to compose and solve systems of equations using different techniques.
