In this course, students will be introduced to the language of medicine including medical prefixes, root words, suffixes and common medical abbreviations. Essential radiation safety practices will be introduced and discussed. Students will develop an understanding of the roles of the organizations and accrediting bodies involved in the Medical Radiation Technology profession. The importance of the legal, interpersonal and ethical responsibilities of a Medical Radiation Technologist will be emphasized. Students will be introduced to stress management techniques that can be applied in the workplace. Proper body mechanics, transfer techniques and vital sign assessment will be studied and discussed.
