MRT 1002   Clinical Practicum II   Credits: 26

In this course, students will perform and develop the knowledge, skill and ability to complete routine radiographic procedures of the abdomen, skull, sinuses, facial bones and fluoroscopic procedures. Students will continue to build upon the clinical competencies developed in MRT 1001. This would include radiographic procedures of the extremities, shoulder, pelvis, thorax and spine. Students will continue to develop professional interactions with all health care professionals, caregivers and patients from all demographics. All new procedural activities will be regulated and supervised by a registered Medical Radiation Technologist until the student progresses to indirect supervision. In collaboration with a registered Medical Radiation Technologist, students will evaluate the diagnostic sufficiency of the radiographic images acquired and take remedial action if required. Mobile radiography, operating room and computed tomography procedures will be performed with direct supervision. Previously acquired clinical competencies may be performed under indirect supervision of a Medical Radiation Technologist when the procedure can be performed at the entry-to-practice level. Emphasis will be placed on development of critical thinking and problem solving skills in complex situations.
