GER 1002   Introduction to Gerontology   Credits: 2

In this course, students will learn that "Introduction to Gerontology" is just that - an introduction into the world of older adults. Everyone needs to know about aging since we are all getting older. As a result we want to ensure that old age is as good a time of life as it can be. Older Canadians make up 13.1 percent of the population and this is projected by experts and researchers to grow to 24.5 percent by 2036. This will put new demands on Canada's social structures. Students will look at aging from two perspectives; that of the individual, and how an aging population can change society. Since research shows that regular attendance in class has a direct positive impact on student success, students are expected to attend all classes.
