ESL 1206   ESL Level 3   Credits: 12

In this course, students will improve their accuracy in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Improvement in pronunciation accuracy will be demonstrated through oral presentations and participation in discussions. Students will produce summaries as well as comparative and persuasive essays on a variety of cultural topics to demonstrate growth in writing skills. They will also demonstrate an understanding of an aspect of Canadian culture through the production and delivery of an oral presentation. Critical and strategic reading skills will progress, and concepts such as 'bias' and 'audience' are introduced to the student. Students should also start to demonstrate 'agency' and self-directed learning to improve language skills in preparation for academia. This course also includes academic study skills, tutoring, off-campus excursions, and online practice to help students acquire academic English skills.
