ENV 1009   Air Properties and Monitoring   Credits: 3

In this course, students will examine the structure, as well as the chemical and physical composition of the earth’s atmosphere. Students will explore and discuss the effects of various airborne contaminants and pollutants on the chemical and physical processes taking place in the atmosphere within the concepts of global warming and ozone depletion. Students will examine the sources, characteristics, and sampling techniques for several common air pollutants, focusing on sulfur, nitrogen and carbon oxides. Students will practice methods for monitoring ambient air quality and forecasting the effects of hazardous air pollution.
