ENV 1008   Water Properties and Monitoring   Credits: 3

In this course, students will examine the movement, distribution, and quality of water. Topics include the hydrologic cycle, surface runoff, ground water, and drainage basin management. Students also learn about the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of water and various indicators of water quality. Hydrological applications, including the prediction of floods, landslides/erosion, sedimentation, droughts, agricultural irrigation schemes, drinking water provision, and the design of sewers and urban drainage systems are discussed. Students will assess natural and anthropogenic impacts on water resources and contaminant transport risks. Students will also practice various water sampling protocols and water quality assessment methods.
