ENV 1007   Biodiversity Fundamentals   Credits: 3

In this course, students will be introduced to the concept and the levels of biodiversity, discussing the importance of biodiversity to natural and anthropogenic systems. Plant and animal systematics will be reviewed. Students will also discuss current threats to biodiversity, including gene pool reduction, industrial activities and introduction of exotic species. Protection of threatened and endangered species will also be discussed. Field identification, sampling, and sample preservation of local flora and fauna will be practiced.
