ELC 1008   Electrical Protection & Dist.   Credits: 3

In this course, students will demonstrate knowledge of how electrical protective devices function. Emphasis will be placed on students identifying, understanding the function of and testing of fuses, circuit breakers and motor overloads. Students will also be able to apply knowledge about the proper grounding of electrical circuits and components to ensure safety criteria are met. They will demonstrate the ability to calculate and analyze short circuit currents in power systems as well as apply knowledge of live work dangers such as arc fault and arc blast to ensure safe work practices. Finally, students will demonstrate their ability to reference and apply both the Canadian Electrical Code Part 1 and the Ontario Electrical Code 24th Edition 2009.
