In this course, students will be introduced to the general groupings of microorganisms and their interaction with the human body in the initiation and progression of oral diseases. Standard precautions and the role of the dental assistant in the prevention of disease transmission through effective infection control procedures will be emphasized. Students will also study embryology of the head and neck including tooth development and histology. Various developmental disturbances of the oral structures will also be discussed.
