CHM 1005   Chemistry Fundamentals   Credits: 3

In this course, students will study the fundamentals of the chemical classification of matter, atomic theory, ionic and covalent bonding. These concepts will be linked to the periodic table. Students will utilize simple nomenclature, write chemical formulae, and develop simple chemical equations from word equations. They will also do some simple stoichiometric calculations. In addition to this, concepts including electrolytes, solutions and gases will be covered. Laboratory experiments will provide a hands-on environment to learn laboratory safety, the proper use of equipment and glassware, and application of concepts covered in the theoretical portion of the course.
