CET 1007   Routing & Switching Essentials   Credits: 5

In this course, students will learn the architecture and components in small- to medium-sized businesses, as well as enterprise and service provider environments. Topics begin by introducing how routing is used in enterprise networks. Students then learn how to configure static and dynamic routing using IPv4 and IPv6 static routes and the Routing Information Protocol (RIP) routing protocol. Next students learn about enterprise LANs and Layer 2 switches. Students then learn how to configure Layer 2 switches and Virtual LANs (VLANs). Next, students learn how to filter traffic and implementing firewall features using access control lists (ACLs). Students then learn how to configure IP services using Dynamic Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Network Address Translation (NAT) services. Students then learn about network discovery protocols and system logging using Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP), Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP), and Syslog. Finally, students learn about IOS images and licensing. Procedural hands-on labs and Packet Tracer (PT) activities are used to reinforce new concepts, and allow students to model and analyze network processes that may be difficult to visualize or understand.
