ART 1018   Materials and Processes I   Credits: 3

In this course, students will gain introduction to more complex and integrated usage of mediums, and the planning and execution required to successfully implement advanced media in both their structural and conceptual approaches to artwork and art cycles. In the first semester, there will be special emphasis on determining the health and safety factors inherent to working with a wide variety of materials, and the implementation of protective measures to ensure the personal safety of the artist, as well as others in the studio environment. Lectures and exercises in the third semester will focus on developing the artist’s capacity to understand, consider, and manipulate the inherent qualities of materials and the processes of their transformation in relation to reinforcing the expression of personal concepts being developed, and to harmonize processes over the course of the suite of work in development of a graduate exhibition.
