Ontario College Certificate |
3 semesters | Barrydowne and Online

Earn your Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate through a blended learning experience that combines the comfort and convenience of learning from home with hands-on labs and clinical experiences during the summer months.

From September to April, you will be enrolled in the same theory courses as traditional onsite learners. You will acquire a foundation in how to assist clients with activities of daily living and how to contribute to the quality of life of individuals who live in a facility or community setting by promoting their independence, dignity, social, emotional and physical well-being, mobility, personal appearance and safety.

Upon successfully completing all theoretical components of the curriculum, you will attend eight final full-time weeks of study in May and June at the Barrydowne campus. All hands-on training will be delivered in Cambrian's state-of-the-art simulation and nursing labs, as well as various clinical placement settings throughout Greater Sudbury.

Program Highlights
  • 1 year – 3 semesters
  • Courses delivered online and hands-on training completed on campus
  • Three practicums: two in a long-term care setting or hospital and another in a community setting
  • Curriculum meets the program standards as defined by the Ministry of Colleges, Training, and Universities

Students must complete 252 hours of supervised placement (PSW 1135 Supervised Practicum I & PSW 1256 Supervised Practicum II) in an approved long-term care facility and 100 hours of precepted placement (PSW 1255 Precepted Community Practicum) in a community home care agency.
