Admission Requirements

Graduate of a CMA accredited Ontario College Primary Care Paramedic program or equivalent or a graduate of an Ontario Primary Care Paramedic program or equivalent or a graduate of an Ontario Primary Care Paramedic program which delivers theory and simulation instruction as outlined by the Paramedic Association of Canada and the National Occupational Competency Profile for Paramedicine (NOCP). Students must provide the College with evidence of completion of Simulation (S), Clinical (C) and Practicum (P) competencies as outlined under the NOCP.

Additional Requirements

  • Complete an entrance exam in order to be considered for acceptance
  • Criminal record check (vulnerable sector screening)
  • CPR/first aid (valid until the conclusion of the program)
  • Class F license
  • Current immunization status (as outlined by the Ministry of Health Emergency Health Services Branch)
  • P95 and P100 Mask fit testing. (Can be completed during the first week of class)

Additional Information

Upon completion of this program, graduates must be successful in the ACP examination set by the Ministry of Health, Emergency Health Services Branch, Ontario, in order to be certified as an Advanced Care Paramedic and thus, to be eligible to work in an ambulance service in Ontario. To be eligible to work as an ACP(F), the student must also complete an Aeromedical course and be successful in the MoH Aeromedical exam.

The need for Advanced Care Paramedics is growing. The employment growth rate is average to above average because of the aging population, increased coverage of health care plans, and new technological advancements. You may find employment with:

  • Municipal and regional emergency medical services
  • Health care services
  • Flight transfer services (such as ORNGE, formerly Ontario Air Ambulance)
  • Emergency medical services in other provinces or countries
